Cheap shared hosting - uptime, price, reviews

Only the host that I use

Stablehost overview, coupon included

Hello again!

This time I want to show you another really good cheap shared hosting provider. That’s Stablehost. Maybe it’s not as popular as other providers (who have all kind of creature types in their names lol), but it’s as good as others in comparison of bandwidth, disk space limits and support.

Personal Experience

As usual, I try not to go over 30-40 domain limit per shared hosting account. After I reach and go over that limit, hosting companies tend to see me as a huge customer which needs dedicated server or at least VPS, in their opinion. Of course, that’s only because they see that I have lot’s of sites, but what they don’t consider is the traffic I’m getting to my blogs, which is only around 100 uniques per site. So if you take 30 blogs, you get 3000 uniques per day.. Which isn’t a lot, and shared account is more than enough!

With stablehost I currently have 36 domains. I didn’t go over their cpu limits, there was no problems for around two years already!

You can see that I’m using a little less than half of my resources. I could probably add more domains if I wanted to, but I’ll just keep it this way. No need to go over the limit, also linking between sites doesn’t work that well if you have everything hosted on the same C class IP. But that’s a SEO lesson, let’s not go into this.. :)

Bandwidth/Disk Space

I have their “Stable” plan with 100gb/month (they have increased their BW limits since then, so now you could get 150gb bandwidth limit for the same price I’m paying. Doh!). My blogs don’t use huge amounts of traffic, so I’m alright with such a limit. Of course, I was almost reaching the upper line before google’s penguin.. (Figure 2) But now I’m back to the point where I’ve started. Oh well.

For the disk space, they gave me 5gb. I don’t know why you would need more, unless you’re hosting full videos or try to compete with youtube. But for that purpose I guess you would have to look for something better than cheap shared hosting, lol.

UPTIME / Other comments

My current tracking software reports that in 3 last months StableHost was down only 0.08% of the time (Figure 3). That sounds pretty awesome for a shared account, huh? I didn’t really have any issues with the downtime of this company. Probably that’s why it’s called StableHost!

Figure 3: StableHost uptime – down for 103 minutes in last 3 months.

I’m not sure if those 100 minutes were scheduled downtime or not, I don’t really remember. What I remember though is every time when I need to reach my hosting and my blogs, it’s up. So I’m really happy with it (considering the price I’m paying, I’m more than happy!)

Support

There’s not much to write about support. They are always online, and always ready to help you. Just look at the ticket answer time (Figure 4), and you’ll know what I mean.

Price / Coupons

This is the part where we open our eyes really wide. They have great plans and prices not biting at all!

Figure 5: Stablehost prices (without coupons)

So, if you get a yearly “Stable plan”, you would pay 68.42 anually. You would pay that if you were a regular customer. But you are not, right? You know that stablehost coupon could bring down that price by half, and that’s why you are here, haha! So let’s see what do we get after we apply some nice discount codes.

StableHost coupons:

USYEARLY – recurring discount of 50% (lifetime!!!, works even when you upgrade/downgrade your plan, simply tell support to keep the discount). Your annual payment for stable plan would be:

HawkHost review and coupon

This host was one of my first hosts I had to deal with. What I really liked about it that they have a great support which answers really quick, when you need. Plans are pretty good too, currently I host 36 domains with them and they have no problems supporting so much addresses.

Bandwidth

I’m currently using their “Advanced” plan (180gb transfer), and paying around 100$ / year. (first year is much cheaper if you use Hawkhost coupons)

Basic plans start with 45 gb, 90gb, 180gb bandwidth limits. If you are a small fish, basic plan will be enough. If you are big fish, you probably wanna get a plan with 90 or even 180gb :)

I know you could get even cheaper plans/hostings than this, but you should really consider HawkHost as they are really good – standing company.

In Figure2 you can see the bandwidth graph for my last year.. As you can see, no huge downtimes or  any other bigger problems.

Figure 2: Bandwidth for the last yearon HawkHost advanced plan

Also you can clearly see that traffic going down after famous Google Penguin update. Well, what can you do about it? They decided my blogs aren’t worth the attention too much, they brought down the surfers. I’d say it’s their loss, not mine, cause I try to give only the best content for my users, hehe :)

But aside from google, HawkHost was delivering a good service for two years already (yep, looks like I’m with them for so long!).

This is probably one of few hostings where I didn’t have any problems where I should have contact support. They just work :)

Another thing that I want to show you, is HawkHost uptime. For the last 3 months they haven’t really been down for a long time. My uptime tracking software reports 99.98% uptime, which is incredibly good, if you think about it! Since my graph (Figure 3)  shows only 3 months, we can conclude that host was down for only 25 minutes in the last three months! (yep, 3 months have 129600 minutes , so 0.02% is merely 25). Where else you could get such high uptime with such low price?

PRICES:

As of 2012 May, prices look like this:

Figure 4: Hawkhost prices

Now, the good part. If you order, say standard plan for one year. You would end up with 59.52$/year. But if you are smart hosting user, you know that you can get some hawkhost coupon, which would bring your total price way bellow that!

This is the invoice I’ve got after applying coupon “whts50v2” (Figure 5). It brought my first invoice by 50% down.. A reliable cheap shared hosting for merely 30$ a year.. It’s like nothing, in comparison what you could earn with your websites that are hosted there!

So, after all this review, what do you think? If you decide that this hosting company is right for you, simply
